PELNI Introduces KM Dorolonda at Waren Port for the First Time
Papua, February 25, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has announced that KM Dorolonda made its inaugural stop at Waren Port on Thursday (25/02). This visit was in response to a request from the Waren Regional Government (Pemda) since 2024 for KM Dorolonda to serve the route.
This inaugural docking was attended by several officials and relevant representatives, including PELNI's Vice President of Passenger Transportation Operations, Ari Prihatnanto, and PELNI Serui Branch Head, Whendy Richard Imkotta. Also present were KM Dorolonda’s Captain, Capt. ST Djarot Setyawibawa, and several representatives from the Ministry of Transportation, including PSO Passenger Ship PPK Ditlala Ahmad Imron, Sub-directorate of Port Facilities Planning and Programs Dit Kepelabuhanan Napoleon Nazaruddin, and Sub-coordinator of Economy Class Passengers and People's Shipping Ditlala Andre Zulfa. Additionally, the Head of Class 3 Waren Port Administration Unit, Marthen Saboan, participated in this event. This visit is part of PELNI’s efforts to expand its service network in Eastern Indonesia.
PELNI's Director of Passenger Transportation Business, Nuraini Dessy, stated that although the ship could not dock directly at Waren Port, PELNI ensured that this maiden voyage proceeded smoothly with the support of small boats to transport passengers. "On this inaugural stop, 120 passengers boarded KM Dorolonda from Waren. However, since the Waren Port pier is only 50 meters long, while our ship is 146.5 meters long, it was not possible for the vessel to dock directly. Passengers had to use small boats to reach the ship," said Dessy.
Despite the limitations of the pier facilities, the passenger embarkation process was carried out safely thanks to the cooperation between the ship's crew, port officials, and the local community. "We hope that in the future, there will be improvements to Waren Port’s facilities to ensure smoother operations. PELNI will continue to coordinate with relevant parties to support seamless services," Dessy added.
KM Dorolonda is a passenger ship with a length of 146.5 meters and a width of 23 meters, with a maximum capacity of 2,000 passengers. In 2025, KM Dorolonda serves two routes:
