Supporting Food Security, PELNI’s CSR Inaugurates Self-Sufficient Village in Batu
Batu, August 20, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero), through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, inaugurated the Pandanrejo Self-Sufficient Village in Batu City, East Java, on Wednesday (8/20). The PELNI Self-Sufficient Village is expected to improve both the quality and quantity of food supplies, especially vegetables, to be distributed to PELNI’s passenger vessels.
The inauguration of PELNI’s TJSL Self-Sufficient Village was officiated by the Mayor of Batu, Nurochman, and PELNI’s Finance and Risk Management Director, Anik Hidayati, accompanied by PELNI Services President Director, Sukendra, and PELNI Vice President of Treasury and TJSL, Fauziah Ferryna. Also present were Batu Deputy Mayor, Heli Suyanto, Brawijaya University’s Director of Research and Community Service, Prof. Lukman Hakim, and PELNI Services Operations Director, Didik Martono. In developing this Self-Sufficient Village, PELNI partnered with the Village Development Study Center of Brawijaya University.
PELNI Finance and Risk Management Director, Anik Hidayati, stated that the demand for food ingredients for PELNI’s passenger vessels is very high, considering that the company transported 5.1 million passengers in 2024.
“Pandanrejo Village has become one of the main vegetable suppliers for PELNI Services. Through this program, we support improvements in quality, quantity, packaging, food safety, and quality assurance to meet our operational needs. The produce from Pandanrejo will be delivered to PELNI passenger vessels docking at Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya,” said Anik.
The Pandanrejo Self-Sufficient Village program includes training in vegetable seedling cultivation, production of organic fertilizers and pesticides, irrigation system management, adoption of technology in modern agriculture, as well as post-harvest business management.
"With harvests directly absorbed by PELNI Services, farmers gain assurance of stable purchase prices, thereby improving their welfare. Farmers in Pandanrejo will receive one year of mentoring to meet PELNI’s onboard food quality standards,” Anik added.
Through the TJSL Pandanrejo Self-Sufficient Village program, PELNI secures a reliable source of raw materials, particularly vegetables, to be supplied to its passenger vessels via Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya.
Pandanrejo Village, located in Batu City, East Java, holds strategic potential as an agricultural area supporting food security. PELNI, through PELNI Services, has partnered with farmers across 44 hectares of land, cultivating various superior vegetable commodities such as chili, onion, long beans, tomato, sweet corn, and cabbage.
All of PELNI’s TJSL Programs are aligned with the pillars of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which have also been adopted by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) into the TJSL Programs across all SOEs. In addition to social aspects, PELNI’s TJSL pillars are structured on economic, environmental, and legal governance foundations.
