PELNI Prepares Ship Operations for Passenger Transport

PT PELNI (Persero) is ready to reopen operational activities to transport passengers

Jakarta, May 13, 2020 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) - PT PELNI (Persero) is ready to reopen operational activities to transport passengers on the condition, after receipt of the Circular Letter for the Chair of the Task Force for Handling Acceleration of Covid-19, No. 4 of 2020 and Circular of the Director General of Hubla, No 21 of 2020.

Passenger Transportation Business Director of PT PELNI (Persero), O.M. Sodikin conveyed that Management is currently preparing to resale ticket sales for passengers in accordance with the criteria set by the Task Force. It is planned that the ship will go to the port which until now has not been closed to passengers.

"In accordance with the Circular that we have received, Management will prepare the fleet of ships to return passengers in accordance with predetermined criteria to ports in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar," he explained.

The management also applies to passengers to bring a health certificate from the health department and the local KKP stating negative exposure to Covid-19. Not only that, but Management also ensures that during operational activities, but the implementation of health protocols related to the spread of viruses on the ship will also continue to be carried out, and will limit the interaction between ship officers and passengers.

The same thing was also conveyed by the Head of Corporate Secretary of PT PELNI (Persero), Yahya Kuncoro, that PELNI continues to establish communication with port managers and authorities at the port so that the implementation of health protocols can be further monitored during operational activities.

"PELNI is currently conducting socialization to all branches and vessels related to this implementation. In addition, we have set restrictions on access for passengers while onboard and a scheme to keep the distance between passengers both on the bed number and when taking food, so that it continues to carry out procedures physical distancing during the trip, "he added.

Yahya added, in accordance with SE Task Force No. 4/2020 and SE Director General Hubla No. 21/2020, operational services for passenger ships will be provided to people who work in government agencies, private companies or foreign private companies operating in Indonesian territorial areas related to defense, security and public order services, health services, basic needs services, basic support services, and important economic functions.

In addition, the journey of patients who need emergency health services or travel of people whose core family members are seriously ill or died as well, as well as for repatriation of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Indonesian Citizens, and students or students who are abroad, and the repatriation of people for special reasons by the government gets to the area of ​​origin, will also be served according to applicable regulations.

PELNI is a State-Owned Enterprise that operates in the field of sea transportation has currently operated as many as 26 passenger ships and visited 83 ports and served 1,100 sections.

In addition to passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 45 pioneer ship routes which become a means of accessibility for population mobility in the T3P area where pioneer vessels stop at 275 ports with 3,739 sections. PELNI also operates a total of 20 Rede vessels.

Whereas in the logistics business services, PELNI now operates 4 cargo ships, 8 sea toll vessels and 1 cattle-specific vessel.
