PELNI Records Two Peaks in 2025 Eid Homecoming Season, Passenger Surges on March 26 and 28
Jakarta, March 28, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has observed an interesting phenomenon during the 2025 Eid homecoming season, with two peak travel days occurring on March 26 and March 28, 2025. Based on data as of March 28, 2025 at 07:00 WIB, passenger numbers on those two dates showed a significant increase, reflecting the high enthusiasm of the public in choosing PELNI ships to return to their hometowns.
On March 26, 2025, PELNI transported 26,234 passengers, marking the first peak of this year’s Eid travel season. That number rose during the second peak on March 28, 2025, with 26,986 passengers recorded as of 07:00 WIB. This represents a 2.87% increase compared to the first peak, or 102.87% of the total passenger count on March 26, 2025.
PELNI Corporate Secretary Evan Eryanto explained that the first surge on March 26 was dominated by early travelers trying to avoid crowds. “Looking at the data, the first peak on March 26 consisted largely of passengers who deliberately chose earlier departure dates to avoid congestion at the ports. Meanwhile, those traveling on March 28 were mostly passengers who had just received time off from work and were utilizing the final day before the holidays,” said Evan.
Evan emphasized that the 102.87% increase is a clear indicator of the public’s trust in PELNI. PELNI ships remain a top choice due to their affordability, flexible schedules, and comfortable travel experience.
As a gesture of care for travelers, PELNI has also set up dedicated homecoming posts at three ports: Batam, Baubau, and Tanjung Emas Semarang, offering free health checks and massages to enhance the comfort of passengers.
“We want to ensure that every traveler—from children to the elderly—has a safe and pleasant homecoming experience. These posts offer special services such as health checks and free massages to help travelers stay fit during their journey,” Evan added.
For those who are still planning their homecoming or return trips after Eid, Evan urged passengers to purchase their tickets as soon as possible via the PELNI Mobile app or the official PELNI website. He also reminded travelers to arrive early at the port and bring identification that matches the name on the ticket.
