Jakarta, August 4, 2021 - In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic that is still hitting Indonesia, PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) is still recorded to be able to transport 1,234,954 customers in the first half of 2021. The company expresses its gratitude for the trust of all customers who are still loyal to using the PELNI ship.
Director of the Passenger Transport Business of PT PELNI (Persero) O.M. Sodikin explained that the cumulative number of PELNI ship customers in the passenger and pioneer ship fleets in the first semester of 2021 was recorded to have increased by 3.2 percent when compared to the same period in 2020 of 1,195,938 customers.
Sodikin detailed the number of customers on passenger ships during the first semester of 2021 as many as 968,498 customers. This number decreased by 2.7 percent when compared to the first semester of 2020 which reached 995,749 subscribers. Meanwhile, the number of pioneer ship passengers in the first semester of 2021 increased by 33% compared to the same period last year or from 200,189 customers to 266,456 customers.
"The decline in passengers on the passenger ship fleet in the first semester occurred because there were policies to control community mobility due to the Covid-19 pandemic, such as the elimination of 2021 homecoming transportation, the closure of a number of ports in the context of PSBB, to tightening travel requirements by sea transportation," he said.
During the past semester, five routes were crowded with passenger ships, namely the Belawan - Batam Island route with the number of passengers reaching 18,428 customers, followed by the Pare Pare - Tarakan (17,826) route, Batam Island - Belawan (14,341), Makassar - BauBau (11,845), and Tarakan. - Pare Pare (11,809).

"According to the provisions during the pandemic, the PELNI ship only carries 50 percent of passengers from its installed capacity. This is done so that the implementation of the health program is maintained during the voyage," added Sodikin.
Sodikin added that PELNI continues to maintain on time performance (OTP) in its operational activities despite the limitations of activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. In semester I/2021, the OTP of PELNI passenger ships was recorded at 96.65 percent and pioneer ships at 95.22 percent. "The company will continue to be committed to providing the best service to all customers and strive to maintain on time performance in every operational activity of the PELNI fleet," he explained.
In addition, the Company also continues to improve services to provide convenience to PELNI ship customers. Sodikin said that up to now, the vending machine has been used in 10 ship departure ports including Tanjung Priok, Semarang, Surabaya, Makassar, Medan, Ambon, Bitung, Benoa/Denpasar, BauBau, and Balikpapan. "The company plans to add vending machines in 10 other ports (Batam Island, Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Pare-Pare, Kumai, Sampit, Batulicin, Tarakan, Nunukan, and Pontianak). We hope this plan can be implemented in the rest of 2021 ," added Sodikin.
During the PPKM period, the Company also tightened health protocols during shipping, including travel supporting documents. Until now, PELNI ship tickets can only be obtained through branch office counters with a cashless payment system. As a complement to travel documents, all passengers are also required to include a negative PCR test result with a validity period of 2 x 24 hours before departure or a negative rapid antigen test result by taking samples taken within a maximum period of 1 x 24 hours and filling in the Indonesian e-HAC.
"The company again reminds prospective passengers of the PELNI ship to be able to equip themselves with the current travel requirements, one of which is a certificate of vaccination at least the first dose," he said.
