British Embassy Visits KM Kelud, Witnessing Firsthand the Success of PELNI’s Transformation

Jakarta, January 23, 2026 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) welcomed a visit from the British Embassy in Jakarta along with the UK Partnering for Accelerating Climate Transitions (UK PACT) team aboard KM Kelud at Tanjung Priok Port on Friday (January 23).

The visit, which took place on board KM Kelud, was part of a learning class organized by UK PACT, supported by the UK Government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (UK FCDO).

The event was attended by PELNI Director of Finance and Risk Management Anik Hidayati, Deputy Head of Low Carbon Infrastructure at the British Embassy Jakarta (BEJ) Phoebe Rimmer, Cities and Transport Lead BEJ Maria Renny, Chair of UK PACT Indonesia Andi Azka Faurianthi Poetri, Executive Director of the Institute for Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Management (IREEM) Arief Yunan, and Urban Development Senior Program Lead at World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia Dimas Nu’man Fadhil.

The visit and learning session, themed “Decarbonization in Shipping Transport,” was also attended by 30 selected students from various universities and higher education institutions across Indonesia.

PELNI Director of Finance and Risk Management Anik Hidayati stated that this collaboration represents a strategic step for the company in advancing the sustainability agenda within the national shipping sector.

“Collaboration with the British Embassy through UK PACT, as well as WRI Indonesia and IREEM, provides us with an opportunity to share PELNI’s practical experience in integrating sustainability principles into daily operations,” said Anik.

Anik also emphasized the important role of the younger generation in driving change toward greener maritime transportation.

“Through the UK PACT program and the FIRST initiative, we hope to contribute to equipping the younger generation with the knowledge and skills needed to lead the transition toward sustainable and low-emission maritime transportation in Indonesia,” she added.

The visit and learning class aboard KM Kelud served as one of the core sessions of the FIRST program. This session provided participants with practical insights into decarbonization efforts in the shipping sector, covering corporate policy aspects, daily operations, long-term business strategies, and the implementation of low-carbon technologies that have been and are currently being applied across PELNI’s fleet.

PELNI recognizes that the maritime transport sub-sector, as an integral part of the national transportation sector, contributes to the continuously increasing levels of greenhouse gas emissions each year.

In line with national commitments under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and emission reduction policies promoted by the Ministry of Transportation, PELNI actively supports the transition toward sustainable transportation through various operational and strategic initiatives.

For information, UK PACT is a cooperation program between the UK Government and Indonesia aimed at supporting the transition toward a low-carbon economy and sustainable development.
