Jayapura, 25 June 2023 - - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or PELNI through the Environmental Social Responsibility Program (TJSL) sent hundreds of Papuan students free of charge who were studying in Jakarta with KM Ciremai from Jayapura, Monday (26/6). The hundreds of students sent by the Harapan Papua Education Foundation come from the mountainous region of Papua.
The Director of the PELNI Passenger Transport Business Yahya Kuncoro immediately sent off the departure of the hundreds of students from Jayapura Port on Monday (26/6) in the morning. Yahya hopes that PELNI's involvement in supporting the advancement of education in Papua can bear sweet fruit in the future.
"Today they depart as students, hopefully in the future many of them will return as great people and contribute to advancing Papua, especially building the maritime industry in eastern Indonesia," Yahya said while visiting KM Ciremai which transported around 160 Papuan students. Yahya was accompanied by Vice President of PELNI Presda Simangasing and Head of PELNI Jayapura Branch Selamat Yanuardi.
The students are known to come from mountainous areas such as Mammit, Daboto, Karubaga, Nalca, Korupun, Danowage, Tundungbon, Mokndoma and Saman.
TJSL PELNI in practice adopts the pillars set by the SDGs, which cover the social, economic, environmental and legal governance fields. Since 2017, PT PELNI has implemented six themes of the TJSL movement with a total of 10 programs, including the Coral Reef Revitalization Program in four regions, namely Sepa Island, Thousand Islands (2017), Bangka Island, North Sulawesi (2018), Jikolomo Beach, Ambon (2019). ), and Bangsring Beach, Banyuwangi (2020).
TJSL PELNI implements the Waste Management House Program in Bima City (2019) and Bau Bau City (2021) as well as the Mangrove Planting Program in 2021 on Harapan Island, Thousand Islands. In 2022, PT PELNI presents the Reading Gardens Program in Baubau and Banda Neira Island. PELNI also has a Fisherman's Village Program in 2022 in Larantuka City.
