New Normal Sea Transportation, PELNI Optimistic Number of Passengers Increases

PELNI welcomes the opening of port access in several regions in Indonesia.

Jakarta, 7 July 2020 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) - PELNI welcomes the opening of port access in several regions in Indonesia. After restrictions on the implementation of sea transportation activities and the closure of a number of ports during the Covid-19 pandemic, to date (7/7) there have been 61 Ports that open access both for embarkation and debarkation for passengers and 5 ports that only serve the embarkation process.

Passenger Transportation Business Director of PT PELNI (Persero), O.M. Sodikin said that after easing travel for passengers, PELNI recorded as many as 14,685 customers had traveled by passenger ship from May 2020 to July 5, 2020 and as many as 16,456 customers who traveled on pioneer vessels in the same period.

"PELNI is optimistic that the number of passengers will continue to increase, especially after the reopening of the port and the resumption of ship operations, even though they are still taking turns to maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of operational activities," Sodikin said.

On the same occasion, Head of Corporate Secretariat PT PELNI (Persero), Yahya Kuncoro said that PELNI still complies with applicable regulations related to passenger ship boarding and alighting activities in each region and always runs the Covid-19 Health Protocol during carrying out its operational activities.

The Company currently operates 6 Passenger ships, namely KM Bukit Siguntang with the route Makassar - Pare-Pare - Balikpapan - Tarakan - Nunukan - Balikpapan - Pare-Pare - Makassar - Larantuka - Kupang (PP);

KM Labobar: Bitung - Ternate - Sorong - Manokwari - Serui - Jayapura - Serui - Manokwari - Sorong - Ternate - Bitung - Pantoloan - Balikpapan - Surabaya;

KM Dobonsolo: (Tg. Priok - Surabaya - Makassar - BauBau - Ambon - Sorong - Serui -Jayapura (PP).

KM Gunung Dempo: Tg. Priok - Surabaya - Makassar - Sorong - Manokwari - Wasior - Jayapura - Manokwari - Sorong - Namlea - Makassar - Surabaya - Tg. Priok;

KM Dorolonda: Tg. Priok - Surabaya - Makassar - BauBau - Namlea - Ambon - Ternate - Bitung (PP).

KM Kelimutu: Semarang - Sampit - Surabaya - Kumai - Surabaya - Sampit - Semarang - Kumai - Semarang - Karimun Jawa - Semarang - Sampit - Surabaya.

"On the KM Kelimutu cruise last Sunday (5/7), the ship carried 239 passengers from the Port of Tanjung Emas in Semarang, where 237 passengers alighted at the Sampit Port," Yahya said.

From Larantuka, NTT For the first cruise with KM Bukit Siguntang, passengers to Makassar - Parepare - Balikpapan - Tarakan - Nunukan reached 198 people. "The Regional Government of Flores makes it free to examine Rapid Tests for students and students. This is proof of good support from the Regional Government for the service of the PELNI ship user community," he added.

Some ships will also immediately carry out operational activities, such as KM Sinabung scheduled to operate on July 8, 2020 with the route Surabaya - Makassar - BauBau - Banggai - Bitung - Ternate - Bacan - Sorong - Manokwari - Biak - Jayapura (PP).

There are two ships that will operate on July 10, 2020, namely KM Kelud with the Tg. Priok - Kijang - Batam - Belawan (PP), and KM Ciremai with the route Semarang - Tg. Priok - Surabaya - Makassar - BauBau - Sorong - Manokwari - Biak - Jayapura - Biak - Manokwari - Sorong - Namlea - BauBau - Makassar - Surabaya - Tg. Priok

KM Nggapulu is scheduled to operate on July 15, 2020 on the Tg. Priok - Surabaya - Makassar - BauBau - Ambon - Banda - Tual - Dobo - FakFak (PP).

As for pioneer ships, as of July 6, PELNI operates as many as 20 ships namely KM Sabuk Nusantara (Sanus) 46, KM Sanus 68, KM Sanus 83, KM Sanus 80, KM Sanus 92, KM Sanus 99, KM Sanus 97, KM Sanus 106, KM Sanus 103, KM Sanus 115, KM Sanus 105, KM Sanus 90, KM Sanus 109, KM Sanus 48, KM Sanus 94, KM Sanus 69, KM Sanus 78, KM Sanus 108, KM Sanus 63, and KM Sanus 107.

In carrying out its operational activities, PELNI also continues to adhere to and implement all health protocols related to the prevention of Covid-19 on board.

"Creating a safe and safe voyage is our commitment. PELNI still limits the number of passengers on board, which is 50% of capacity. The crew has been equipped with PPE that must be used during duty and most importantly, passengers are required to include a letter of rapid test results when going to travel by PELNI ships.
