PELNI Completes SisKomKap Implementation on 25 Passenger Ships to Strengthen Maritime Connectivity
Jakarta, March 3, 2026 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has completed the installation and implementation of the latest Ship Communication System (SisKomKap) based on Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology across all 25 PELNI passenger vessels.
Through this technological transformation from Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, PELNI now delivers significantly improved connectivity quality. Previously, the GEO system had limitations in bandwidth and relatively high latency. By utilizing LEO technology, larger bandwidth capacity with very low latency is now available. This improvement supports more stable and reliable real-time communication, including when vessels operate in remote waters.
PELNI Corporate Secretary Ditto Pappilanda stated that the implementation of the LEO-based SisKomKap system is a strategic step to strengthen the Company’s digital transformation while also improving safety and service quality for passengers and crew members.
“The modernized SisKomKap dashboard is now equipped with new features such as an AIS Receiver to monitor maritime traffic around PELNI vessels, One Time Performance Analysis for operational performance evaluation, port position tracking, rainfall data, wind speed monitoring, as well as Threat & Vulnerabilities, allowing us to review the history of significant events that have occurred in the maritime environment,” said Ditto.
Ditto also explained that with the new SisKomKap system, all CCTV video feeds from the ships can now be monitored in real time and live streamed from the control center. This technological advancement is expected to further strengthen security measures and maritime environment monitoring.
“We remain committed to continuously innovating and adopting the latest technologies so that the public can enjoy safe, comfortable, and high-quality sea transportation,” Ditto added.
Through the implementation of SisKomKap across 25 passenger vessels, PELNI further strengthens its position as a safe, modern, and service-oriented national shipping company.
As a state-owned enterprise engaged in maritime transportation services, PELNI currently operates 25 passenger ships serving 483 routes and calling at 75 ports.
In addition to passenger transportation, PELNI also operates 30 pioneer shipping routes, which serve as vital accessibility links supporting community mobility in 3TP (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged regions). These pioneer vessels call at 229 ports, covering 516 route segments and 2,515 voyage routes. PELNI also operates 18 rede vessels. For logistics services, PELNI currently operates 8 Sea Toll routes and one dedicated livestock shipping route.
