Jakarta, August 12, 2020 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs to help expand the distribution of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) products. Through this collaboration, PELNI is calculating the provision of special tariffs for goods transportation for MSME products.
The Head of the PT PELNI Corporate Secretary Yahya Kuncoro said that PELNI's business specialization in logistics and sea transportation is the main capital in supporting the advancement of MSMEs that want to expand their marketing reach.
"Soon, we will agree to an agreement with the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises to jointly support MSMEs. PELNI's logistics transport using passenger ships and government cargo ships can help the marketing of UMKM products more broadly and openly," explained Yahya.
The plan to provide special rates will be given to MSMEs that will send their products to other cities in Indonesia using PELNI logistics services. "We have 26 passenger ships with the Nusantara route and operate eight sea toll ships that can carry the cargo of UMKM products in the country. Hopefully, the imposition of this special tariff can be a breath of fresh air for MSME business players who are affected by COVID-19," he explained.
Yahya added, with the plan to impose this special tariff, MSME players will no longer worry about the limited product distribution range. PELNI also always encourages MSMEs to continue to show their role as one of the supporters of Indonesia's economic activities and can increase their productivity so that products can compete globally.
