Supporting National Energy Distribution, PELNI Shipping Agency and PLN Forge Strategic Partnership
Jakarta, June 3, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero), through its business unit PELNI Shipping Agency, has officially established a strategic partnership with PT Pelayaran Bahtera Adhiguna, a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero), in the field of tugboat-barge and dry bulk vessel agency services.
This partnership covers key operational activities such as loading and unloading of bulk coal, fuel bunkering, and vessel maintenance (docking) at all Special Terminals (Tersus) of PLN’s coal-fired power plants (PLTU), which are spread across various regions of Indonesia, including Batam, Tarakan, Jayapura, Kupang, Kumai, Palembang, and Samarinda.
The collaboration aims to support the smooth distribution of national energy through synergy among state-owned enterprises (BUMNs). To date, PELNI has handled 45 vessel calls under this agency partnership, generating estimated revenue of IDR 3.6 billion as of April 2025. This achievement reflects PELNI’s commitment to providing reliable and professional ship agency services while reinforcing the role of BUMNs in supporting national logistics.
PELNI’s Director of Cargo and Sea Toll Business, Kokok Susanto, stated that this cooperation is part of a joint effort to ensure the national energy supply chain operates smoothly and efficiently.
“The partnership with PT Pelayaran Bahtera Adhiguna is a strategic step to strengthen synergy among BUMNs in supporting government programs in the energy sector. PELNI Shipping Agency is committed to delivering integrated ship agency services,” said Kokok.
PELNI’s ship agency services cover various operational aspects such as port administration handling, coordination with port authorities, provision of supporting logistics, and vessel activity monitoring during port stay up to departure.
“We are optimistic that this collaboration will not only improve operational efficiency but also strengthen PELNI’s position within the national logistics ecosystem. We are ready to support the smooth distribution of coal for PLN’s power plants and contribute to the development of sustainable infrastructure and national logistics,” Kokok added.
This partnership is a tangible example of synergy among state-owned enterprises in supporting national development. PELNI is committed to continuously enhancing its contribution to the national logistics ecosystem while supporting the government’s vision to strengthen Indonesia’s energy and infrastructure sectors.

In addition to passenger transport, PELNI operates 30 pioneer ship routes providing access and mobility for residents in remote, outermost, underdeveloped, and border areas (3TP), covering 230 ports and 522 segments in total. PELNI also operates 18 rede vessels. For logistics services, PELNI currently operates 8 sea toll routes and one dedicated livestock vessel route.
