PELNI’s 3-in-1 Vessel Transports Tactical Vehicles Manufactured by Pindad

Jakarta, October 18, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) has transported tactical vehicles produced by PT Pindad (Persero) to Sorong, Papua, using the KM Ciremai vessel. A total of 10 Maung MV3 units were loaded onto KM Ciremai and departed from Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon (October 18).

PELNI’s Corporate Secretary, Evan Eryanto, stated that PELNI transported the Pindad-manufactured tactical vehicles from Jakarta to Sorong based on an order from a private freight forwarding company contracted for the delivery. To carry the 10 Maung units, PELNI utilized KM Ciremai, a 3-in-1 passenger vessel capable of transporting passengers, containers, and vehicles simultaneously.

“KM Ciremai is a German-built vessel that has been modified to include a special space for loading commercial and operational vehicles,” explained Evan. He further added that, in addition to KM Ciremai, PELNI also operates KM Dobonsolo, which has the same specifications.

The Maung MV3 units shipped are expected to arrive in Sorong on Thursday (October 23). Upon arrival, all units will be received directly by the Kasuari Regional Military Command (Kodam Kasuari) headquartered in Sorong.

“We will ensure that the vehicles arrive in excellent condition, as all Maung units are placed on a dedicated vehicle deck, separate from passenger areas,” Evan emphasized.

KM Ciremai serves the Jakarta – Surabaya – Makassar – Baubau – Ambon – Sorong – Serui – Jayapura (round-trip) route. As a modified 3-in-1 vessel, the 146.5-meter-long KM Ciremai has a transport capacity of 948 passengers, 65 TEUs of containers, 322 motorcycles, or alternatively 39 four-wheeled vehicles, 12 trucks, or 8 heavy equipment units.

Meanwhile, the Maung specifications vary by version but generally include a turbocharged diesel engine capable of reaching speeds up to 120 km/h and an endurance range of up to 800 km. The vehicle is designed for all-terrain mobility, suitable for both military and civilian applications.
