Reducing Prices by Up to 48 Percent, PELNI’s Logistics Ships Maintain Staple Food Stability in 3TP Regions

Jakarta, July 24, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) reaffirms its commitment to operating logistics vessels assigned by the Government since 2015 to transport essential and staple goods. The presence of PELNI's logistics ships has significantly reduced price disparities and ensured the availability of essential goods in the frontier, outermost, underdeveloped, and border areas (3TP regions).

PELNI President Director Tri Andayani stated that the presence of logistics vessels has helped reduce the prices of essential goods by up to 40 percent, especially in Eastern Indonesia. This is due to the scheduled departures and arrivals of PELNI’s logistics ships, which provide certainty to businesses, enabling them to stabilize or even lower prices.

"On average, price disparities for essential goods can be reduced by up to 40 percent. This undoubtedly supports the local economy, particularly for communities in 3TP island regions, who experience the government’s role in promoting economic equity through PELNI’s logistics vessel assignments," Andayani said.

For goods such as rice, flour, sugar, cooking oil, and beef, the price reductions in western regions such as Simeulue, Anambas, and Natuna range from 5 to 17 percent. In central regions such as Nunukan, the Sangihe Islands, and Sabu Raijua, the reductions range from 6 to 33 percent. Meanwhile, in eastern regions like West Seram, Fakfak, and the Tanimbar Islands, prices have dropped by 13 to 48 percent since the arrival of PELNI’s logistics ships.

"Through this government assignment, we are committed to ensuring the readiness of our operational fleet to sail on schedule and to consistently provide affordable and reliable transportation for the community," Andayani added.

Since the assignment began in 2015, PELNI’s logistics ships have transported 86,023 TEUs through 1,074 voyages. In the first semester of 2025 (January to June), 5,849 TEUs were transported, marking a 102 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

In 2025, PELNI is operating 8 logistics routes serving a total of 52 ports. With the addition of one reserve logistics vessel, the total container capacity per voyage reaches 1,151 TEUs.
