Supporting Sustainable Development, PELNI Presents a Garbage Management House in Denpasar,

Denpasar, 18 February 2023 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) launched the fourth Garbage Management House (RKS) through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program in Denpasar, Bali.

Denpasar, 18 February 2023 - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) launched the fourth Garbage Management House (RKS) through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program in Denpasar, Bali. The presence of the RKS was inaugurated by the Director of Finance and Risk Management of PT PELNI Anik Hidayati together with the Secretary of the South Denpasar District Ni Komang Pendawati and accompanied by the Chair of the RKS I Wayan Parna in Denpasar, Bali, Saturday (18/2).

Anik Hidayati said that the Denpasar PELNI RKS program was the Company's effort to build a TJSL program that has added value to support the successful implementation of sustainable development programs (SDGs). This program is in line with SDGs number 12, namely responsible consumption and production. "In all operational activities, we are committed to participating in supporting the sustainable development that we are realizing through CSR programs such as this waste management house," he said.

Denpasar City was chosen as the fourth city for the RKS program because based on data from the Bali Province Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Bali Province is the 8th largest waste producer in Indonesia by producing 915.5 thousand tons of waste in 2021. "Hopefully the presence of SOEs through the RKS program will be able to reduce the amount of landfill waste in Bali and make Bali cleaner and healthier," he explained.

A total of 4 passenger ships owned by PT PELNI stopped and docked at Benoa Harbor, Denpasar, Bali, namely KM Tilongkabila, KM Awu, KM Binaiya and KM Leuser. The average waste generated by PELNI ships in one day is 2.5 tons. "Within a month the Denpasar PELNI RKS can reduce waste by as much as 75 tons per month, both waste from PELNI ships and household waste," explained Anik.

The Denpasar PELNI RKS is equipped with waste management facilities, including an organic waste chopping machine, a waste press machine, and a three-wheeled garbage transporter motor. The RKS PELNI Denpasar assisted community utilizes this facility to produce valuable output such as compost products, feed pellet products for poultry, vegetable plants with processed compost growing media as well as handicrafts such as flower pots and bags.

"We hope that the Denpasar PELNI RKS can present a healthy, comfortable, clean environment and can create community self-reliance through the use of processing waste into goods of sale value," concluded Anik.

PELNI as a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in shipping services currently operates 26 Passenger Ships serving 1,058 sections and visiting 76 ports.

Apart from passenger transportation, PELNI also serves 42 Pioneer Ship routes which are a means of accessibility for population mobility in the 3TP area, where Pioneer Ships stop at 273 ports with a total of 3,495 sections. PELNI also operates as many as 16 Rede Ships. For logistics business services, currently PELNI operates 10 Sea Highway routes and 1 special route for Livestock Vessels.
