Maritime Safety Under the Spotlight, PELNI President Director Conducts Surprise Inspection in Surabaya

Surabaya, July 11, 2025 – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or PT PELNI (Persero) reaffirmed its commitment to maritime safety through an unannounced inspection conducted by PELNI President Director Tri Andayani at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya on Friday (July 11).

The inspection took place aboard KM Dorolonda, accompanied by PELNI Corporate Secretary Evan Eryanto, Head of DPA Fauzi Indrianto, and PELNI Surabaya Branch Head Roni Abdullah, to assess operational readiness and ensure compliance with maritime safety standards.

During the visit, Tri Andayani inspected several vital safety devices, including lifeboats, liferafts, life jackets, and the Marine Evacuation System (MES). The purpose of the inspection was to ensure that all safety equipment and facilities are in optimal condition and ready for use in emergencies.

PELNI President Director Tri Andayani confirmed that all PELNI passenger ships adhere to strict safety procedures.

“Each PELNI ship has a muster list and is required to regularly conduct drills to maintain readiness for emergency situations. There are no unlucky days on the calendar, which is why every PELNI crew member must always be alert and prepared to ensure the safety of all passengers. Every life matters,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Head of PELNI’s DPA, Fauzi Indrianto, added that PELNI implements a safety management certificate system that includes regular emergency drills and ensures that all safety equipment is in prime condition and always ready for use.

“This year, we have also conducted safety workshops onboard several passenger vessels to enhance the knowledge and skills of crew members in handling emergency situations,” Fauzi explained.

Tri Andayani also expressed gratitude to port authorities, port management, the military (TNI), police, and all relevant stakeholders for their support in maintaining the operations of PELNI’s fleet, especially in upholding safety standards at every port.

“Passenger safety remains our top priority. PELNI is committed to continuously improving service quality and ensuring that every journey on a PELNI vessel is safe, comfortable, and meets international safety standards,” she added.
